A new program from the Service Learning department has begun this semester. The Sparky Service House is an on-campus community that is focused on active citizenship. The students living in the house will serve as a source of leadership on campus when it comes to volunteer opportunities and national days of service. There are currently two students in the program, with interviews being conducted to fill one or two more spots.
The Sparky Service House will be partnering with the Alternative Breaks program and their Student Homelessness Initiative. They will also be involved with many of Kirtland’s community partners and will connect other students to community-wide volunteer opportunities. Each student living in the house will hold a specific position such as serving as a liaison to the Student Senate. The house is also occupied and supervised by AmeriCorps*VISTA, Sarah Johnson.
